What You Should Know About Metal Bunk Beds

Metal bunk beds are quickly becoming one of the most popular styles purchased today. Nearly every different variety has become available with a metal option. Let’s take a look at some of the pros and cons of this type of bunk bed to see if they are a good choice or not.

The reason that they are becoming so popular is because they are easy to put together and can cost a lot less money than those that are made from wood. It is not uncommon to find a metal bunk bed selling for between $100 and $200 online. They will also have a much lower shipping cost because they do not weigh very much.

For those who are not that great at putting things together a metal bunk can save a lot of time and frustration. The bed will usually come with everything you need to assemble it all in one box. You may need your own screwdriver, but that is about it. Instructions should be simple to follow and you can have it put together quickly.

Since the metal variety weighs significantly less than one made from wood, you have the option to move it around easily. Moving a wooden bunk takes significant effort, so you need to make sure you have it in the right spot the first time.

All of these sound like some incredible benefits, but many professionals have started to caution buyers against purchasing metal bunk beds. The reasons why they are so inexpensive, easy to put together, and incredibly light also make them potentially dangerous. Many of these beds are produced in Mexico or Asia and do not meet American safety standards.

Their lightweight designs make them much less stable than a stout wooden bunk bed. There have been instances of some of these being so unstable that the entire thing tipped over when someone tried to climb the ladder.

When considering this type of bunk you need to weigh all the options. The low price is often very attractive, but no price is good enough to have your children sleep in an unsafe bed. This is not to say that all of these are unsafe, there are plenty of companies out there making high quality metal bunk beds. However, if a price looks too good to be true then it probably is.
